BIAPH Virtual Health Advocates Conference
Don’t Let COVID-19 Stop You From Using Your Brain (Or Learning about it): Here’s why you’ll want to tune in for the Virtual Health Advocates Education Conference. Hosted by the Brain Injury Association of Peel and Halton (BIAPH)
The COVID-19 Pandemic and its Effect on Current Events
helplessness unlike anything we’ve experienced before. The world right now seems rooted in uncertainty, and over the past few months we’ve seen many important events affected by the ongoing pandemic. A multicultural event scheduled to take place in Kitchener-Waterloo this past June was recently cancelled, Canada Day was a bust and what Halloween is going to look like is still up in the air. So how do we fill this void in dialogue and opportunity? It’s a fair question to ask.
In the midst of this unrest, we’ve seen human creativity and ingenuity come to light in an effort to maintain some sort of normalcy. Whether it’s shifting meetings to taking place over zoom or buying two human-sized teddy bears and making scenes of them in your backyard to lift the spirits of your stuck-at-home neighbours (really, this happened), we’ve seen the ability of people to adjust accordingly and make the best of what has been a pretty grim situation. If we want a more local example of a creative effort aimed at helping to maintain at least some sense of normalcy in Ontario today, we need not look further than the Brain Injury Association of Peel and Halton (BIAPH) and an upcoming conference they have planned this October.
What is BIAPH and how is a conference running in the middle of a pandemic?
BIAPH is an association based out of Peel and Halton that aims to serve the needs of brain injury survivors and their families. After spending months planning to host an in-person healthcare conference earlier this spring, the team at BIAPH had to scrap their original plans due to the pandemic. But instead of cancelling the event, the great team at BIAPH decided to re-imagine what a conference could look like during these trying times. After extensive planning and redesigning, they have now taken the conference to a virtual setting. That’s right, the second annual Health Advocates Education Conference is still on, and this time you have the chance to enjoy it from the luxury of your own home.
Tips and Strategies
The theme for this year’s conference is entitled: What You’re Missing: Practical Tips and Strategies from Industry Professionals. Through BIAPH’s virtual platform, audience members at this year’s conference can listen to industry leading professionals deliver podium speeches about their experiences working with survivors of Brain Injury. From smart home technology and its impact on future independent living to robotic assisted gait training, this year’s conference consists of 20 expert presentations that covers an array of topics aimed at providing the audience with a more comprehensive understanding of how to advocate for brain injured clientele’s needs.
Going Virtual
But is a virtual conference lIke this REALLY going to feel the same? Well, the team at BIAPH have taken extensive steps to make this virtual conference as impactful as possible. Through the BIAPH platform, not only are you able to listen to industry professionals, but you’re also provided the opportunity to interact with them and ask questions following their presentations. This type of dialogue will help in making the conference feel more normal during a time when normalcy is seemingly non-existent.
Food and Prizes
Beyond just delivering quality content from industry professionals, BIAPH has partnered with SkipTheDishes to provide audience members with breakfast and lunch, so you don’t have to miss out on any of the great content preparing food. Audience members will also be registered to win gift cards and prizes provided by conference sponsors.
